Information and Reminders
On Thursday 3rd March, Year 1 will visit the Shanghai Sculpture Park to conclude their current topic, "Hooray let's go on holiday."
The children will need to prepare a bag as if they are going on a one-day holiday. They can bring any items that they think are necessary for a beach holiday e.g. a picnic, a bucket and spade, a copy of their passport.

English
In English this week, the children will be extending their sentences by improving their grammar. They will begin to add the prefix 'un' to different words to change the meaning of verbs and adjectives. The children will be shown how to structure their work into paragraphs. After the visit to the sculpture park the children will write a recount about their trip.
Mathematics
In Mathematics this week, the children will continue their work on measurement. They will be recording the height of a range of objects, estimating and recording using standard and non-standard measures.
The children will revisit reading and recording the time to the hour and half past the hour. Time will be spent understanding seconds, minutes and 5-minute intervals.
Topic
The Personal Goal we will be focusing on this week is 'Adaptability'.
As ‘Geographers' the children will think of different ways to help give advice and guidance about how to deal with air pollution. An oil spill will happen whilst the Snail and the Whale are on their holidays. The children must devise different ideas to help clean up the oil spill.
As 'Artists' and 'Scientists' the children will make observational drawings during their trip to the sculpture park. They will investigate the different man-made and natural materials that have been used to create the sculptures.
