In English, we will be continuing our work on non-fiction texts. Students will be looking at different advertisements and identifying the key language used in these. They will also be trying to identify the key features in these which make them memorable.

In order to tie this in with our current topic, students will be working on creating their own advertisements on the negative impacts of smoking and alcohol and also to promote healthy living. Their advertisements will include detailed explanations which will come from them researching and taking notes on each the subject they are trying to promote.

In Maths, we will begin our focus on time. This will start by learning how to read time on both analogue and digital clocks and being able to convert between the two.  After this, students will be learning how to convert units of time starting with seconds and minutes, moving to minutes and hours, hours and days and days to weeks.  After this we will be looking at how our skills in using time can be used practically by looking at various timetables, whether they be for modes of transport, movie theatres or other day-to-day uses of time.

In topic we will be coming to the end of the topic.  We will be looking at some of things which can have a negative impact on our lives.  These will touch on our learning this week on healthy living.  We will be looking at the negative effects of smoking, alcohol and other things that could have a negative effect on our lives.  Part of this will be creating persuasive advertisements which will inform both parents and their peers how to better take care of their bodies.  As an exit point, the Year 4 students will be inviting their peers in for a checkup using the various tests they created for vision, hearing and pulse rate.  They will also present some top tips on how their peers could stay healthy.
