Sci-Fi Book Week

11 March 2016

This year’s Book Week, inspired by the upcoming visit to NAIS Pudong by the UK National Space Academy, will see a range of Science Fiction inspired activities across the school from Monday 14th – Friday 18th March.

  • Book Week

The week of sci-fi begins with our all-school Book Week Dress-Up Day on Monday 14th March, with all students asked to come dressed as their favourite science fiction or literary character. Whether it’s Ender’s Game, 1984 or Flat Stanley in Space, there are plenty of fantastic ideas for Book Week Dress-Up Day costumes lurking on just about everyone’s bookshelf or Kindle. Our Primary students will display their costumes in a special parade taking place at 9am in B Block.

Shanghai Book Traders are in school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with their bookshop set up for students of all ages to browse and select books to purchase. The store will be in The Hive, so make sure you pop by for some reading inspiration.

Throughout the week, some familiar faces (teachers) from NAIS Pudong will share their favourite stories in lunchtime storytelling sessions in The Learning Centre. Make sure you’re there by 12:35pm to find a comfy spot to enjoy the tales.

If you are looking for some new reads, and have a bookshelf of pre-loved books, bring them along to Mrs Preston in room B307 by Thursday to receive your tokens for the big Book Swap on Friday lunchtime in the Dance Studio.

Also on Thursday and Friday, scientists from the UK National Space Academy will be conducting masterclasses with our older students and teachers, demystifying much of the science behind many sci-fi books. Everyone gets a chance to hear from lead scientist and Director of the Academy, Anu Ojha in an evening lecture, “Space – So What?” from 6:30pm in the Auditorium. Don’t miss what is bound to be an informative and very entertaining talk.
