To celebrate Book Week next week, the Primary school will take on a sci-fi theme. We have chosen to focus on the book ‘Moonshot’ by Brian Floca, about the flight of Apollo 11. The children will read the story of the famous flight, learning how the astronauts prepared for their amazing adventure and about some of the incredible experiences they had. The children will develop their oral re-telling skills by practising a report about the flight, as well as researching each of the different astronauts to help them create a fact file. They will then learn how to draw inferences about people by taking part in a drama activity, with each child taking on the role of a different astronaut. Finally, they will write a diary from the point of view of one of the astronauts.

In guided reading, we will continue to identify and learn the conventions of play scripts. The children will read play scripts, focusing on expression and action.

In spelling next week we will identify spelling rules for adding a suffix to a root word.

In maths next week, we will focus on shape. The children will learn the properties of a variety of 2D shapes and use their knowledge to draw them accurately. They will also identify the properties of 3D shapes and use a range of different materials to make them. To finish the week, they will identify horizontal and vertical lines, as well as highlight pairs of perpendicular and parallel lines.

We will spend some time next week in topic lessons enjoying Book Week activities such as making book marks and doing quizzes.

As Geographers, we will use a secondary source of information (the internet) to help us find out how the movement of the Earth and sun creates different seasons, weather patterns and natural environments around the world.

In Computing, we will continue to develop our animations using Scratch software.
