As it is Book Week, we will be focusing on the topic of ‘Space’. Using the text titled “The Moon Book” we will be looking at extracting information from a non-fiction text about the different phases of the moon. Continuing with this we will also be doing research to find out some fun facts to share about the moon. We will then be looking at fables and legends, in particular those that involve the moon.  Students will then have a chance to create fact files and write their own fable or legend, using the moon as a focal point.

In Maths, we will revisit multiplication and division. Initially we will be working on recalling multiplication and division facts up to the 12-times table.  We will then be reviewing multiplying and dividing 2- and 3-digit numbers by a 1-digit number.  This will involve using the bus-stop method and the more formal written method to find their answers.  After refreshing these skills, we will be using them in a more practical real-life situation, where children will be solving word problems based around the Egyptian theme.

Next week in topic we will continue our learning about Ancient Egypt.  First we will be studying the Ancient Egyptian gods and what they represent. These gods usually had different animal heads and represented something different. Students will be researching the different gods and finding out what they represent, and then creating their own unique god. Following this, we will be researching some of the different Pharaohs who ruled Egypt and identifying some of the key moments of their lives. Finally, we will begin looking at the pyramids, in particular how they were built, who they were built for and how they built them.
