Letter from the Director of Music and The Arts - 17th March 2016

17 March 2016

I am pleased to look back at two very different but major events that have happened for us in the Arts over the past week.

  • B&TB
  • B&TB
  • Juilliard
  • Juilliard

Firstly, last week saw our production of Beauty and the Beast. When we undertook the planning for this show, last year before arriving in Shanghai, we had no idea of just how far we could push our talented performers. As we went through the auditions, and then started rehearsing, it was so evident that this school really has some fantastic pupils. With all four shows last week spread over two casts, the depth of this talent was easy to see. Huge congratulations should go to all members of the cast, orchestra and crew for an amazing end product. We were all thrilled and possibly the crowning moment was managing to get both pyrotechnic fireworks firing on the last night! Wow what a sight it was!!

We are now fully into planning next year’s show and details regarding some pre-release audition material will be coming out very soon.

The other major event over the past week was another visit to our school from Juilliard. Andrea Lee was here for two days, taking some of the music classes and also looking at the developments we have made since she last visited before Christmas. She was very pleased to see the amount of pupils who have now started to take up an instrument, but there are still more available to give out to our pupils, please do take this opportunity up. She also attended an Orchestra rehearsal as we put the final touches to our pieces ready for our first performance next Thursday 24th March at the International Music Evening. We look forward to welcoming her back in May, when we will see her return for her final visit this academic year.

As I mentioned previously, next Thursday will see all of our Choirs, our Orchestra and some soloists perform at the International Music Evening. This will start at 7pm and will last approximately 1 hour. There will be no charge for this concert and I hope to see as many of you there as possible for what will be a lovely evening. Our Orchestra will be rehearsing on Monday 21st 3:15-4:15pm but, as there are no CCA buses next week, parents will need to make other arrangements for pupils to be transported back home afterwards.
