After the holidays, we will be looking at instructional writing to tie in with our topic learning of mummification. Initially, students will be studying texts to understand the complex steps required for mummification. They will then recreate the process orally in order to fully understand the steps necessary.  Following this, students will be drafting the steps required focusing on making sure that they have included enough detail in each step. Students will then evaluate and assess the effectiveness of their writing and their peers through sharing their work and seeing whether their instructions are easy to follow.

When we return from the holidays, we will be focusing on the topic of perimeter. Students will be learning how to find the perimeter of shapes and be able to draw a shape made up of squares with a given perimeter. We will then be looking at finding the perimeter of compound shapes.  Following this, we will use multiplication strategies to help calculate perimeter more efficiently. This all can then be used to enhance our learning of perimeter by using these skills in practical situations.

When we return from the break we will be returning to our work on ancient Egypt. Students will be learning about the mummification process and making their own canopic jars. In conjunction with this, students will be learning about the afterlife and the importance of this to the ancient Egyptians. We will also be looking at the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb and the importance this played in the understanding of ancient Egyptian life. This is because Tutankhamun’s tomb was the most intact tomb that has ever been discovered.
