In English, we will be continuing to work on our newspaper reports and then be looking at diary entries.  Last week, students had the opportunity to be reporters and ask three key figures, Howard Carter, Theodore Davis and the Egyptian Head of Antiquities, questions about the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb.  Having understood how the discovery of the tomb impacted these key figures, they will write diary entries from the perspective of one of these key witnesses. We will be looking at writing from perspective as well as in the structure of a diary entry.

In Maths we will continue our work on geometry. This week will be focusing on the properties of triangles and shapes. After this, we will be extending our understanding to the different types of angles – acute, obtuse and right angles. From here we will revist symmetry; in particular, finding lines of symmetry and also completing lines of symmetry in shapes and patterns. Finally, we will use all our learning in an investigation which involves all we have covered throughout the week.

This week, we will be continuing our work in art and be making ancient Egyptian jewelry, Shabti’s, out of clay and other forms of Egyptian clothing. In addition to this we will be investigating ancient Sumerian life, in particular some of the following areas: rulers, farming, clothing, gods and religion, writing, homes, ziggurats, games and pastimes, crafts, transport and travel. This will be compared to ancient Egyptian life.  As we are approaching the end of our topic – Temples, Tombs and Treasures - students will be busy preparing items for our Exit Point.
