Effective Revision in Year 12 Spanish

20 April 2016

IB Spanish Ab Initio students working together to prepare for exams!

As part of our training for the upcoming Spanish exams, we were told to plan and write a response to a paper 2 task without aid from our teacher.

We began by highlighting the key words in the question, ensuring we knew which text type we had to write – an article - and we then thought about how we would structure the article. We planned the “bueno” and “malo” of “los videojuegos” or video games. Together we decided to structure the article with an introduction and three main body paragraphs with a built-in conclusion. In order to gain all of the format marks, we ensured we had a title, date and proper sign-off as these are the characteristics of an article. After we had written the plan we put it all together into one response while adding numerous conjunctions and connectives. We checked our grammar, our vocabulary and our structure before we were finished and we found we had produced a Level 7 writing exam response!

From this, we have learnt that planning in a writing exam is imperative to gain as high a mark as possible, as this allows you to see the range of vocabulary used and structure your response appropriately. We now have more confidence in tackling paper 2 writing questions in our end of year exam.

And if you speak Spanish, here’s the finished text the students produced:

Lucy, Kartik y Joey
