Moving on, my focus this week is on our Drama Department.
It has been an amazing start to the term in the Drama Department, with each year group swapping their dramatic styles that they have learned throughout the course. I have been very pleased to see the quality of the Year 7 and 8 performance pieces as they start their studies of the practitioner Artaud who developed an interactive type of performance. Students have been learning how to create an atmosphere that will make an audience feel scared and unsettled. The talent of our Year 9 students, as they embark upon their studies of Physical Theatre, has been outstanding with an interesting range of symbolic and textual pieces performed. All of our students have progressed in Drama this term and they have all applied themselves admirably to sometimes very advanced and difficult tasks.
Moving towards the final weeks of this term sees the department developing the two remaining collaborative ‘big shows’ with the Music and Drama Department ‘Stage & Screen’ and ‘Horrible Histories’ shows. Watch out for details regarding tickets for these events soon.
Finally it’s a fond farewell to the Year 11 students who successfully completed their Drama course this week and, as such, had their last drama lesson before their examinations. They have created a range of fantastic performance pieces, from a devised piece influenced by the style Absurdism to some memorable monologues pieces. It has been a pleasure teaching very talented actors and helping them realise their creative potential.
