As an IB learner, to be a thinker is one of the goals we set for the students. Therefore, when we discussed the pros and cons, everyone was encouraged to develop his/her critical thinking skills by applying wise judgement, questioning others’ opinions and producing a reasoned critique. It was great to see that most students can challenge the culture bias that children from single-parent families are more likely to behave badly, and give their mature opinions about it.
This topic ended with the class singing together the Chinese song ‘Listen to your mum’ which was written by Jay Chou, a famous Chinese singer from a single-parent family. From him, we have seen an exemplary child of single parenting.
