English
This week in English we will be looking at Poetry. Students will be looking at a range of different poems in order to find out what important features they may have. They will then be looking at the key elements and techniques used in poetry. These include: similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration and onomatopoeia. Students will then be writing poems with the theme of Food. Hopefully, they will be able to tie these in with the restaurants and dishes that they have created in our topic “What’s on the Menu”.
Maths
In Maths next week we will be looking at Area and Perimeter. In order to tie into our topic of “What’s on the Menu”, students will be designing a vegetable and herb garden for their restaurants. Within Perimeter, students will be using multiplication strategies in order to find the perimeter of each garden. Within Area, students will be finding the area of each individual in order to find the amount of supplies they will need to set up their gardens.
Topic
In Topic we will be working as Technologists. Students will be involved in a number of different cooking activities. These will range from making bread and butter from scratch, designing a salad for their restaurant and designing a fruit dessert for their restaurant. The focus will be on making combinations that are tasty and appealing to potential customers. Students will also be recapping the work they did last week on Health and Safety especially when it comes to the preparation and presentation of food.
