Yesterday, Secondary students and staff assembled in the Auditorium for a special Learner Profile awards assembly. Following on from the recent academic awards assemblies, the Learner Profile awards were designed as a way of recogniszing the wider skills and attributes that our students display, not related to performance in a specific subject.
The Learner Profile is a set of 10 attributes, promoted by the IBO as the qualities of an ideal IB student:
Inquirers
Knowledgeable
Thinkers
Communicators
Caring
Risk-taking
Balanced
Principled
Open-minded
Reflective
Tutors and Year Leaders discussed long and hard as to who should receive the award in each category for each year group, but the rapturous rounds of applause from fellow students indicated that the students could identify with and wholeheartedly supported the choices made.
The seemingly interminable IGCSE examination season comes to an end on Friday, after which Year 11 will join their parents and some key staff to celebrate this milestone with a celebratory event on the Bund. This does feel like it has been the longest examination season ever, lasting seven full weeks, so Friday’s celebrations will be richly deserved by all concerned!
The last week of term is fast approaching, and we look forward to specially tailored programme for each year group next week, including a range of trips, workshops and other activities to allow our students to excel beyond the confines of the normal classroom. On Thursday, competition between both individuals and houses will be rife, as students attempt to run, jump and throw to victory during the Secondary sports day. Finally, on Friday, we will spend some time bidding farewell to students and staff who are leaving for pastures new, and ensuring that everything is collected in in preparation for the year ahead. Term will finish and buses will depart at 12 noon.
