Due to our Transition day next week, our trip and the school holiday, we will be teaching as normal for two days. Therefore, please find a summary below of what we will be studying. Thank you.
English
Next week in English, children will continue to read Kensuke’s Kingdom. We are up to Chapter 7 and are beginning to learn more about Kensuke’s story of how he came to be on a deserted island. Children will focus on empathising with characters and seeing things from others’ point of view. We will revisit the techniques which create emotive writing and discuss use of language and structure.
Maths
Next week in Maths, children will be beginning a small project around Euro 2016. You will have seen from their response to this week’s homework that they are very excited about this. We will look at problem solving involving money linked to Euro 2016 as well as converting between European currencies and using this information to calculate ticket prices for different venues at Euro 2016. Children will also improve their reasoning and collaborative skills.
Topic
As we continue with our Olympics topic, children are learning to debate the pros and cons for a country to host such an event. We will be investigating the impact of the games from a number of viewpoints and moving on to study the history of the games.
