In English next week we will use the text ‘Weslandia’ by Paul Fleischman to investigate how we can add a suffix to a verb and change it into a noun. We will continue to focus on verbs by highlighting a verb in a sentence and using a dictionary and thesaurus to improve it. We will be developing our research skills, focusing on finding key and relevant information in a text. We will also be learning how to summarise information in note form.
In Maths next week we will continue our focus on number. We will be learning how to read and write numbers up to 1000 in digits and words, finding 10 or 100 more or less than a given number and comparing and ordering numbers up to 1000. We will also be ordering and comparing numbers, revising our understanding of number bonds and solving practical number problems.
To support your child in preparation for this you could practise counting in tens and hundreds, as well as practising reading and spelling the following words: hundred, ten, ones, bigger, smaller, greater than, less than.
In Topic next week we will continue to develop our understanding of what learning is, and how we can develop our own personal learning. We have created our own definitions for the Personal Learning Goals of resilience, adaptability, cooperation, respect, enquiry, international mindedness, morality, thoughtfulness and communication; and we will continue to discuss how this can aid our learning. We will be hearing about how different adults in our school develop skills. We will be considering all the different ways we can develop strategies to help us when we are feeling stuck.
As artists and scientists, we will be talking about how the brain works and how neurons communicate with each other. We will then create our own representations of how the brain works in a collaborative art project.
