We would really appreciate parents’ support in helping their child make healthy choices when choosing a snack to eat at breaktime. Please remember that children should not be sharing snacks as we have a number of children with food allergies. Thank you for your help with this.

Finally, auditions for ‘Into the Woods’ are coming soon – watch this space!

Stars of the Week

5A -  Yoshitaka Kano is Star of the Week, for showing a mature attitude to learning.

5B -  Jack Lin is Star of the Week for his creative approach to writing, and his thoughtfulness in finding out about our new topic.

As we begin our new topic linked to Living Things, our writing will move towards some creative approaches to looking at animals. We will explore the ways we look at animals, identifying effective vocabulary choices and coming up with our own. We will be creating contrasting impressions of the same animal using this powerful language, after we have read and performed animal poems by other authors. Finally, we will be presenting our best ideas in shape poems, and using this spacing to begin to consider how commas help us clarify meaning. At home, you could investigate animal poetry or animal descriptions.

Next week marks our first week of our new Maths sets. As the year progresses, each set will focus on the same objectives, but will explore these in different ways. Next week, as we consolidate our understanding of place value up to 1,000,000, including decimals; we will also be looking at how place value is applied in converting units of measure. Each set will be identifying units of metric measure and converting between them, and will begin to look at problem solving around this, both in the context of word problems, and within broader collaborative tasks. There will be practical exploration of how the number system works to enable links to be made between place value and metric measure.

Next week we will begin our new topic ‘Existing, Endangered, Extinct’. This science based topic will involve an exploration of classification of the five kingdoms. We will begin with our Entry Point, an exciting treasure hunt in the natural kingdoms of our campus, and will move on to conducting our Knowledge Harvest to share what we already know. Please see our additional topic letter for further information, and get in touch if you would like to get involved!
