Stars of the Week

Star of the Week in 5A is Julie, for being a team player during Soccer Day.

Star of the Week in 5B is Phoebe, for developing a new attitude towards regular home reading.

As we continue to explore the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photography Competition, we will be going ‘on location’ in role as photographers. Considering the types of experiences they might encounter, we will write diary entries about interesting or unusual days faced by the photographers. We will also be beginning a grammar focus on relative clauses. In order to understand relative clauses, however, we will first learn about the construction of sentences. We will distinguish clauses from phrases, and understand the role different words play with in a clause. To make this fun, we will be playing games and physically constructing silly sentences linked to our topic work.

Next week in Maths we will continue with additive reasoning, but working within the context of a range of mathematical areas. We will look at converting measures from metric to imperial, and thinking about how rates of conversion affect the size of a given answer. We will also be looking at applying our knowledge of addition and subtraction when problem solving, such as in analyzing data presented in line graphs. Finally, we will be problem solving and exploring timetables, linking this to our understanding of data and our understanding of time.

Next week is International Week, and we will be focusing on our continent: Europe! We will be representing Europe through two of its regions – Scandinavia and The Mediterranean. We will be switching between classes to ensure we all find out as much as possible about many different countries. Mr. Johnson will be teaching a range of art and geography related lessons about Scandinavia, whilst Ms. Preston will be running workshops on Spanish Art and Italian Cooking. We will also be sharing our own experiences of internationalism and celebrating our diversity through the presentation of our homework tasks, and by inviting parents and family members in to come and share or celebrate with us.
