Information and Reminders
Thank you all for your hard work helping your child prepare their International Week presentations and costumes for the parade! We all had a fantastic week celebrating what makes each of our countries so special and unique.
Please remember to book an appointment for your child’s Academic Review Evening on either Monday 17th October or Wednesday 19th October. You will be able to book an appointment from 10am on 10th October. All of the Year 1 teachers are very excited to share your child’s successes with you during these meetings.
From 10th October we will also be looking for parent helpers to come in and hear children read. Last year we had lots of parents coming to school to listen to the children’s reading and we would like to see this repeated this year, so if you would like to volunteer please contact your child’s class teacher directly.

English
Next week in English, to complement our new IPC topic ‘The circus is coming to town,’ the children will be exploring feelings. We will look at different faces and determine how people are feeling, we will also explore body language and other non-verbal cues. We will meet a very sad clown who has lost all of his belongings and we will help him to retrieve them and learn the story as a performance with actions to help us remember the sequence of events. Next week the children will write this story and they will attempt to adapt it as well.
Please play this game at home with your child to help them learning our new emotion words:

Maths
The focus in Maths next week, will be on Position and Movement. Children will be introduced to language related to our positions in relation to something nearby. We will use words such as under, over, next to, between, on top, below, left, right, inside and outside.
If you would like to support your child at home with this, please play one of these games on: www.topmarks.co.uk:

Topic
The focus for this week will be ‘Morality’ as we explore the different emotions which people feel and when they feel them. The children will be painting a clown showing different expressions and then they will paint each other’s faces with different feelings. We will also talk as a class about the importance of telling people how you feel, even when it is a sad feeling, so that someone can help you to feel better!
