Information and Reminders
Happy New Year! A big welcome back to all of our returning students and an extra special welcome to the new families who have joined us this term.
Don’t forget our Primary Academic Review Evenings taking place on Tuesday 17th and Thursday 19th January from 5pm to 8pm. Information on how to make an appointment was sent out earlier this week. Please let your child’s class teacher know if you did not receive this.
January and February are usually the coldest months of the year in Shanghai. Please make sure your child comes to school every day wearing the correct Early Years winter uniform, and with appropriate layers to equip them for the playground.

Overview of Learning
Next week, we will begin to explore our space topic through the story Loon on the Moon by Chae Strathie. The book will be a fantastic way to explore our Solar System and introduce the children to the concept of Space. There will be plenty of opportunities to develop our communication and language skills as we explore the text through a variety of drama and art activities. From creating the Loon’s rocket ship to imaginative story-telling, the week is sure to be a rocketing success!
For our Maths learning, we will begin to explore capacity and the key terminology associated with it. The children will have the opportunity to engage with lots of messy and sensory play, filling containers with sand, water, space slime and lots more! We will really be encouraging vocabulary such as empty, full, light, heavy, etc., during child initiated and encouraging the children to use these terms when talking to one another during their play.
