Message from Year Leader

Welcome back! We are into the second week back now and it’s almost like we had never had a holiday! Students are settled in their work and all routines are back to normal. I hope all students and families had a great Christmas holiday, wherever that may have been.  Twelve weeks will separate term one from term two and it will prove to be, as always, another busy one.

This week we had the two Academic Review Evenings for Key stage 3, in which you were able to meet with your son/daughter’s teachers and discuss their term 1 report as well as their first cycle of assessments. It was great to see many of you there. The Iceland trip will get underway from the 25th Jan to the 2nd Feb and we wish those Year 8s going on the trip a safe and exciting experience. I am lucky enough to be going on this trip and I cannot wait! Most definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity! Chinese New Year celebrations kick off with the Chinese Temple Fair this weekend and FOBISIA students will travel to Malaysia to compete in the annual tournament. Please come along to school on Sunday and check out the many different stalls and workshops going on for the Temple Fair. Get involved or simply purchase some gifts and presents!

This is just a taste of what will be happening over the forthcoming weeks and I urge you to please check the school calendar for more information on what’s happening this term and I look forward to seeing you along the way at some point!

Secondary and High School students - How international are you?

Sammi Huang and I-Zac LeeCalling all secondary and high school students! Sammi Huang and I-Zac Lee from Nord Anglia International School Pudong, China, need your help. They want to research:

  • how you feel about being international
  • how many countries you have lived in
  • what the benefits are of being an international student.

If you want to help, please spend ten minutes answering their survey. The link is:

 7 Minute Challenge

The annual 7-minute challenge took place this week. In this House event, students gain points for their House by completing a selection of 12 different exercises performed back to back, with no rest for 7 minutes. If a student completed the challenge then they gained 5 House points each for their own House. The event took place inside the C block foyer during lunchtimes of Tuesday (Years 7-9) and Wednesday (Year 10-12). Please check out the phots of Year 8 students working hard in the challenge to complete it!

Nanjing International Swim Meet

Student had an amazing time competing in the Nanjing International swim meet this weekend. The students swam exceptionally well with many personal bests being achieved. Abe Zackem won his heat in the 50m Freestyle and swam some excellent legs in the relays. Amanda Yong is a well-established member of the NAIS Pudong Tigersharks whose teamwork and encouragement was exceptional. The Tigersharks are looking forward to the next meet which is on Saturday 18th February.

Lesson Updates

Cindy 8B for Mandarin

These day in Mandarin class, we learned about some old stories and some historian Chinese writer, and also we learn about the way they write the story, the different way they write those stories. And some of our mandarin classmates are going to sing a Chinese rap song during this week assembly, and we are practicing these days.

Antonina 8B for English

This week in English, we have started learning about gothic horror. We have also had some work on typical gothic horror stories such as 'Frankenstein' and 'Journey to Dracula's Castle', where we would describe why the stories are written in first person and what's the advantages of it. It has been very interesting lessons so far.
