English
At the beginning of the week we will finalise preparations for our Exit Point performance which will take place on Wednesday 8th February. The students will rehearse their lines and presentations. As we begin our new topic ‘Being Human’, we will begin reading the book ‘Pig Heart Boy’ by Malorie Blackman. Throughout the next few weeks, the theme of the book will allow us to explore various genres of writing, including, debate, diary entries and story writing.
Spelling: In spelling we will look at silent letters (those whose presence cannot be predicted from the pronunciation of the word)
Maths
Next week in Maths we are moving onto measurement. We will be converting between different units of metric measure (for example, kilometre and metre; centimetre and metre; centimetre and millimetre; gram and kilogram; litre and millilitre). Through practical opportunities we will use all four operations to problem solve with measure [for example, length, mass, volume, money] using decimal notation, including scaling. This maths will develop real-life skills and it will be interesting to see their prior knowledge.
Topic
In topic, the children are preparing their Exit Point for ‘The Great, the Bold and the Brave’. As a year group, we have written a play called – ‘What have the Greco-Romano’s ever done for us!’ – we are looking forward to performing this in front of parents. Towards the end of the week, we will be starting our new topic called – ‘Being Human’. We will begin this topic by asking the questions – ‘What does being human actually mean?’ ‘How are humans different from other mammals?
