English
In English, we will begin reading Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman. We will first discuss the author and make predictions about the book using several given clues. Reading through the initial chapters of the book we will then discuss the characters’ behaviours, identifying language in the book to justify our reasons. We will also continue to use skills of inference and deduction to make further predictions. In our writing we will be identifying and using imperative verbs.
Spelling: Our spelling will focus on homophones and words that are often confused
Maths
Next week in Maths we are continuing to look at measurement. Through practical opportunities we will continue to use all four operations to solve problems with measure [for example, length, mass, volume, money] using decimal notation, including scaling. Most of the children have a good understanding of measurement so we may challenge them by looking at converting imperial units of measure into metric.
Topic
The children have started their new topic ‘Being Human’. At the beginning of the week, the children will be looking at what they know already about the human body. We will then be exploring differences between animals and humans. The children will finish the week by focusing on the brain – investigating statements about neurons.
