Don’t forget…as an approved Han Ban Examination Centre, our School is offering the YCT (Youth Chinese Test) on Saturday 13 May 2017. The test is open to our Y3-Y9 students, but is optional. CoResolve Parenting Course – Wednesday 15th, 22nd, and 29th March, 2017

We are very pleased to have one of our own NAIS parents, Belamie Peddle, offer to run a course at school on Parenting tips. Belamie is a trained professional of the CoResolve parenting style and techniques. The main focus of the program is to increase your capacity to feel empowered and more capable as a parent by offering practical tools for working with those that mean the most to you, your family.

The course will be held at School over three consecutive Wednesdays from 10:30-2:30 pm in the HIVE at NAIS Pudong. The cost is RMB500 per session or RMB1200 for all 3 sessions. A light lunch is included in the price. A portion of this will go to a charity that the NAIS Community Group support. Please note that it is advisable, but not necessary to attend all 3 sessions which cover the following:

  • Session 1: Improving daily communication in the household -- creating less stressful and more rewarding interactions
  • Session 2: Decision-making --  how to make decisions so the whole family feels heard
  • Session 3: Conflict resolution -- how to resolve differences of opinion (between parents and children/siblings/spouses)

If you would like further details, please email Belamie on as soon as possible. The course starts next week.

Casual Night Out – Saturday 25th March at 7:30pm

Come and join the Community Group for the second round of our Casual Nights Out. Just as the first event was, this is a very informal, relaxed way for us to catch-up with fellow parents and teachers. All are welcome.

We are heading to the new ‘Found 158’ area in Puxi this time and will start the evening around 7:30pm at ‘Hooked’ and ‘El Santo’. You need to go down to the lower area into the ‘Found 158’ area and find the entrance to one of these two bars, which are inter-connected with each other.

You can make your own way to Julu Lu, or you can book a seat on a party bus! We have organised for one bus to leave from School at 18:00, stopping at the Emerald Compound on the way and for another bus to leave from Jin Qiao (corner of Biyun Lu and Lanan Intersection) at 18:30. Both buses will leave ‘Found 158’ at midnight to return to the pick-up points. The price of the bus is approximately 35-50 RMB per person.

Please book your seat on the bus by Wednesday 22nd March by emailing the following people:

School/Emerald Compound bus: Leanne at or Christine on

Jin Qiao bus: Sandra at or Christine on

The Week in Review….

Noodle Factory Tour – Wednesday 8th March, 2017

Our first trip, and first experience of the Noodle Factory was a great success. You can hardly get more quintessentially Chinese than noodles! It was not that long ago that all noodles would have been made by hand in small family run units and there are just a few such units still dotted about the city. In Xiantandi, in a quiet(ish) street our group of NAIS Mums went to see one in operation, ably lead by tour guide Lisa Zhu.

After purchasing our noodles we strolled down the road to the site of a shikumen which is due for demolition and learned about the relocation of people to new apartments and how Shanghai and China as a whole keep city and countryside populations stable.

Finally, it was off to a Mian Guan – ‘Noodle Place’ - for lunch!

If you like the look of this tour, stay in touch with the community group – we organise tours throughout the school year to explore the city and appreciate the culture and history of this amazing country.

Food for thought…

Most of you are aware that NAIS Pudong are hosting the Y5 and Y6 FOBISIA Games this year. We really want to provide the best service and environment for our young athletes and their fellow international students to compete against each other in. A few weeks ago we sent out a request for volunteers to help with the Games, and while we would like to thank all those that have offered their time, we still need more hands on board.

It would be wonderful if we could get a larger team of volunteers for this amazing event. Please contact us via email at if you are able to assist, even if it’s only for one session…every little bit of help is appreciated.

A few events to add to your calendar.
