This week the Primary Leadership Team have enjoyed visiting classrooms throughout the primary school to see a variety of Maths lessons taking place. It never fails to amaze me how capable our students are, and this morning I watched some of our Year 6 students tackle some algebraic problems that were particularly challenging. Even in Year 1 earlier this week, our students were learning how to solve open ended problems in a systematic fashion in order to find all possible answers.
As many of you will know from attending our Maths workshop earlier in the term, our aim is very much to enable our students to be able to problem solve, provide reasons and explanations for their thinking and understand how to find errors in calculations when checking their work. It is evident that our students across all year groups are developing these skills well and understanding how to apply their knowledge to a range of contexts.
We have also enjoyed 5A’s Class Assembly this week, which gave us an insight into what they have been learning as part of their Being Human topic; and today Year 4 hosted the Exit Point to their topic Gateways to the World. It was really good to see so many parents come in to both events over the last two days and share the children’s enthusiasm for their learning. Year 2 also enjoyed a special day with their People of the Past dress up day, which saw Florence Nightingale, Hans Christian Anderson and Cleopatra come to school for the day as well as many other famous faces from history. I wonder what they thought of their day at NAIS?
Next week, we welcome some Superheroes to school as Nursery also have a dress up day. We also welcome the author Sarah Brennan who will be working with students in Years 2 to Year 5. Also, don’t forget that we will be hosting our Early Years and Primary workshops next Wednesday:
- 9.00am to 9.45am – Primary Workshop – Sex and Relationship Education – The Hive
- 9.45am to 10.30am – Early Years Workshop – Math through play and creative learning – Sports Hall A
We hope you are able to join us.
