Next week in English we will look at Poetry with a focus on building and materials.

Reading Key Objectives

Listening to, discussing and expressing views about a wide range of contemporary and classic poetry, stories and non-fiction at a level beyond that at which they can read independently.

Continue to learn some poems learnt by heart, performing these with appropriate intonation to make the meaning clear.

Participate in discussion about books, poems and other works that are read to them and those that they can read for themselves, taking turns and listening to what others say.

Writing Key Objectives

Choose adjectives and verbs for effect, using word banks to support their work.

Consider what they are going to write before beginning by writing down ideas and/or key words, including new vocabulary.

Use of capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks.

Write poems.

Make simple additions, revisions and corrections to their own writing by evaluating their writing with the teacher and other pupils.

Next week in maths, we will revisit our work on Money and English coins. Our Learning Objectives covered will include:

  • To recognise and use symbols for pounds and pence
  • Read and say the amounts of money combining the coins 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, 1 pound and 2 pound
  • Count say and record amounts of money combining the coins
  • Solve practically simple problems involving addition of money
  • Solve practically simple problems of money, including giving change.

Next week in topic we will continue our work on Buildings. As Artists we will continue to create and design a house thinking about different materials and fabrics. As Scientists we will look at the properties of the materials and think about why these would be suitable for different purposes. Which materials are hard? Why is glass used in windows? What does opaque mean? Which materials are waterproof? If you have any cardboard boxes, scrap materials, fabric or old unwanted clothing please send them in to be cut up and used for the decorating.
