Year 11 Newsletter – 12th May 2017

Exams, Exams, Exams!

I am writing this newsletter from the strange position of a Year Leader whose year group is not in school full-time, as the wonderful year 11s are now about to head into their third full week of IGCSE exams. By the time you read this, many of the language exams will have been completed, including French, German and Spanish; special mention to Isabel, who has had to come into school for two 5pm exams in Italian! The students were also relieved this week to get their English Language exams out of the way, although they do still have three English Literature papers to go. Next week is a big week, with papers in Chinese, Spanish, Economics, Chemistry and Biology awaiting the students; I would also like to give my commiserations to the GCSE PE students, Luca, Gaia, Naser, Simon and Lukas, who have to come in at 5pm next Friday for the written paper.

All the students are impressing me with their positive attitude to the exams, with their sensible approach to their private study in the Media Suite, and with their attendance at revision sessions scheduled by teachers. Good luck, year 11, and keep up the hard work!

Year 11 Prom at Kathleen’s Waitan

A reminder that the Prom will take place at Kathleen’s Waitan on Saturday 17th June. Kathleen’s Waitan is a wonderful location with a fantastic view of the Bund, and I remember with fondness the beautiful evening we spent there with last year’s cohort. You should by now have received an email invitation to the prom: the event is free for students to attend but each adult ticket is 420RMB. It would be fantastic if we could see all students with at least one parent at the prom. It is a lovely event to mark the end of their IGCSEs and their transition to IB, and a great opportunity for photos with your child in their formal wear! Please remember to fill in the jotform confirming your attendance as soon as possible, and provide payment to the main reception.

Journey to the IB: Tuesday 20th June

The transition between Year 11 and IB is an important stage in your child’s educational journey, as they move to becoming more responsible for their own learning, more focused on studying holistically and becoming a true IB learner. It is for this reason that we provide a ‘Journey to the IB’ day for year 11 to help them understand what will be required of them in years 12 and 13. This will take place on Tuesday 20th June and will be led by our Head of the IB Academy, Mr Graham, and the IB team. We strongly urge your child to attend; more information about the structure of the day will be provided in due course.

Dates for your Diary

Friday 16th June: IGCSE exams end for year 11 students

Saturday 17th June: Year 11 Prom at Kathleen’s Waitan

Tuesday 20th June: ‘Journey to the IB’ event for all year 11 students

Thank you for reading and for your continuing support of year 11.

With best wishes,

Anna Whiteson, Year 11 Leader
