Year 7 Newsletter – 9th June 2017
With the final assessment cycle completely finished, there’s a big sigh of relief from the students whilst the teachers busily mark them all and get all the reports written in time.
Guidance for the past two weeks has entailed preparation for the Year 6 transition assembly to be held a week today on June 16th. All three forms have been putting together their presentations; 7A are doing Thoughts and Feelings, 7B are doing Opportunities, 7C are doing Everyday school life. They are coming together so well, but still need that final tweak over the weekend that you may see them doing at home. We have a final rehearsal on Monday and I look forward to sharing some photos on ClassDojo with you next Friday. Yesterday Kaiyao and Risa [both 7B] performed in front of the whole school in the House award assembly as preparation for the upcoming assembly. This took great courage and they were amazing.
As you can tell our students have some fantastic results this term with their Housepoint totals. Well done to you all for working so hard this year. Many photos attached for you to look at.
The Summer Fun Day planned for tomorrow has unfortunately been postponed due to the rain forecast. The event will now take place next term.
Student Reporters
7B had their turn at writing a student report; this is the last time they will write them as Year 7 students.

Mehar Parmar – Drama
This week in drama we were preparing for our assessment which is a surrealism performance. Our group is doing a creepy piece and we have been working on a key technique In this specific topic which is distortion. Distortion is when you make an image seem abnormal and creepy. In other words you mess the image up and are bits seem very weird. We have to really work on this because if you don’t, you won't have an effective piece. This is extremely fun to do because you can play around with different angles and places for your body, arms, feet and head…
Surrealism is really fun because you can express your funny Siam in many different ways. Sometimes it is difficult because you need to pay for concentration to the whole lesson (You need to listen to the teacher all the time) because the words and the techniques are different and the difficult as well at times. Surrealism is very interesting because you can learn a bit about science and it's very fun to do with your friends because you can really make it your own and unique. This makes it personal a lot because you add what you like in it!!!
We all thought it was a little bit difficult at times because we were arguing with each other but it is really fun once you play around and figure out what you're going to do and then you just rehearse and make it really really powerful and surreal.
When we came up with an idea, the performance got really fun and interesting because when we started this project we were told that we need to have an Energy level of 10. This means that you need to go above and beyond with not just voice. You would have to think about your actions (use your plastiques and corporials). We were told that the energy level of our daily lives is 3-4 and this is even when you try very hard!!! We had to distinguish a plan of what we were doing exactly because if one of us did one NORMAL thing, we would ruin the whole performance!!!
Sure, surrealism is different and difficult, but overall It Is extremely exiting yet stressful at the same time! 😊
Kaiyao Jiang – History
We have been revising for the test with Mr. Guiney. Following this we learnt about Marco Polo who was born in Venice Venti and Republic in 1258. He came to China in 1275 in the last years of the Song Dynasty and later when the Song were conquered by the Mongols, he became a henchman of the great Kahn Kublai. We have loved making an iMovie about Marco Polo.
Finally the next newsletter will be the last one this academic year, where we end with 7C reporting. I hope you are enjoying the posts on Facebook and ClassDojo.
Upcoming dates are:
Friday 9th June – CCAs finish today
Friday 23rd June – Last day of School Year; students finish at 12pm
Have a wonderful weekend – I hope to see you at the Summer Fair.
