  • Paul Antcliffe

    Paul Antcliffe

    Head of Primary

    Paul Antcliffe

    Paul has over fifteen years of experience in education, working in the U.K. and most recently in Yangon, Myanmar. He is a qualified Advanced Skills Teacher as well as holding the N.P.Q.S.L. qualification in senior leadership. Paul is a trained Designated Safeguarding Lead and is a member of the school’s safeguarding team.

    Paul joined Nord Anglia in 2021 as the Head of Primary having previously held this position at Dulwich College Yangon, leading across both of the college’s campuses and working as a leadership mentor across the global group of Dulwich schools. Prior to that, he worked as the Head Teacher of his hometown primary school in Hebden Bridge, England where he led the school through a successful school inspection in July 2019.

    He is married to Avegaine, herself a teacher, and they have two children - Neave and Raphael - who are both students in the Early Years phase. Family and community are especially important to Paul so he is particularly happy that his children join him as part of the school community.

    Paul graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2001 with a BA Honours degree in Philosophy and Politics. He retains an interest in critical thinking and this extends to his professional life where he has an interest in pedagogy and educational theory, recently qualifying as a Science of Learning Lead Practitioner.

    Paul Chipman

    Paul graduated from Leeds University in 1985 with a BSc in Mathematics.  He continued his academic career at Manchester University where he completed a PhD in computational fluid dynamics. Following his research work at Manchester University, Paul and his wife spent three years in Japan where he worked for Komatsu as a research engineer. They returned to the UK in 1992.

    After working at Cheltenham College from 1994-2011 as a teacher of Mathematics and head of general Studies, Paul decided to travel again and took up a Head of Maths role at a leading International School in Shanghai.

    Head of IB Academy and Higher Education Adviser

    Emma Hughes

    Emma is a Highly Experienced IB practitioner.  In addition to the teaching of English Language and Literature, Film, Theory of Knowledge and English Literature, she leads the Extended Essay provision as a core component of the IB Diploma provision. In addition, Emma supervises interdisciplinary World Studies essays as well as subject specific essays in Film and Literature. Emma is furthermore an active member of the IB Educator Network and is a qualified examiner in a range of components. Emma’s wealth of experience as well as student focused approach makes her the ideal member of the team to lead the IB Academy at NAIS Pudong.

    Apart from her work as Head of IB Academy, Emma also teaches both Key Stage 3 and IGCSE students. At IGCSE she is a teacher of Cambridge English First Language and English Literature. Furthermore, she is an examiner for the Cambridge English as a Second Language oral component. She loves teaching English at NAIS Pudong, and most of all, loves the way that internationalism is celebrated amongst the students and staff here and strives to incorporate this into all elements of her teaching. In her role as Head of IB Academy, Emma ensure ongoing academic rigour where students are supported to cultivate the qualities of the learner profile and the IB Diploma approaches to learning.

    Early Years Leader and Nursery Class Teacher

    Kelly-Ann Downs

    Kelly graduated in 2005 from the University of Cumbria, with a BA (Hons) in Primary Education and a specialist focus in the Advanced Study of Early Years. She is extremely passionate about teaching and has a special interest in early childhood development and child centred learning. 

    After graduating, Kelly began her career as a teacher in Kent, where she taught for eight years across the Early Years Foundation Stage and Year One. During this time, she was subject leader for RE across the school and for English across lower primary. After many years considering a move overseas to teach in an international context, Kelly joined the Nord Anglia family in 2012, where she was Deputy Head of Early Years.

    Tamara Keenan

    With her initial undergraduate background in Media & Communication Studies with French, Tamara then went on to complete her Post Graduate Certificate in Education and has been in education since 2002. In her (almost) two decades in the vocation, Tamara has gained varied and extensive experience in both leadership and teaching within Primary and the Early Years.  Five of these years she spent in our sister school, BIS Abu Dhabi.

    Tamara has been with NAIS Pudong since 2015. She is part of the Senior Leadership Team and involved in driving the school’s vision and feels fortunate to have been part of our students’ learning journeys; watching them develop and progress.

    Assistant Head of Primary and Class Year 6 Teacher

    Andrew Lowery

    Andrew began his career in education by teaching Secondary English in Nottingham, UK. He subsequently taught Year 6 for five years at an international school in Ipoh, Malaysia. In 2016 he took up the position of Year 6 class teacher and Upper Key Stage 2 Leader at NAIS Pudong, and then Assistant Head Teacher in 2017.

    Andrew’s proudest achievements include recently completing his Masters Degree from King's College London which is a unique professional development opportunity for selected Nord Anglia Education staff. 

    He loves working at NAIS Pudong with a friendly and optimistic group of staff and students. He enjoys working with all ages of children in a variety of subjects and loves the cultural understanding which is possible in a diverse international school. Creating fascination, motivation and enthusiasm in a group of students is what attracted him to the profession, and continue to be the best part of the job.

    Greg Siccardi

    Greg joined the NAIS Pudong community in August 2015. Before coming to China, Greg taught in Cambridgeshire for nine years. During his time in the United Kingdom he taught History whilst holding a variety of leadership positions including department head in History, Critical Thinking and Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE).

    Since joining our school Greg has continued to teach a wide range of subjects including History, Global Perspectives and Theory of Knowledge. As Key Stage 4 leader, Greg has played an integral role ensuring highly successful GCSE provision in Years 10 and 11. As part of this role Greg has not only worked with students on achieving academic success but has also supported their journey to becoming active and internationally minded global citizens. As an experienced IB practitioner, Greg worked with curriculum leaders, teachers and students to guarantee a smooth transition from the IGCSE courses to the IB Diploma Programme. Greg is pragmatic and organised. As such he has taken a leading role in the planning and running many of our trips such as Project Week, the Adventurous Journeys for the International Award and the Tanzania Expedition. Greg’s main interests out of school include sports. He models a balanced approach by coaching NAIS Pudong football teams.

    Anna Whiteson

    Anna joined our school in 2015. It soon became evident that Anna is a great inspiration for the students and her colleagues due to her passion for literature, art drama and music. Anna is a graduate of the University of Oxford where she studied English Language and Literature. Following her time at Oxford, Anna continued her studies at Cambridge University where she studied education and drama. Anna is also a talented musician and as an advanced singer has been a member of madrigal ensembles. Following her graduation, she taught in various London schools for eleven years. During this time, she held various positions including Head of English and Senior Academic Mentor in a large sixth form. Anna very much enjoys the exciting opportunities at NAIS Pudong and working with such enthusiastic and positive students.
