Joan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in the major of Korean Language and Literature from Sookmyung Women’s University, Seoul, Korea in 1992. Since then, she has worked in the field of Education for over 20 years. In Korea, Joan used to teach high school students who aimed to enter Seoul National University, the highest university in Korea. However, she made use of typical Korean teaching methods, which are rote learning in style. While she had much success with these methods, she realized that she had wanted to teach literature in a creative and critical way. So, I came to Shanghai in 2009 and began teaching IB students happily at NAIS Pudong in 2016.
Joan is very interested in continuing to learn. Whenever she encounters new things, she cannot simply leave them unknown and always finds ways to figure out them. This character makes her good at many things: playing the piano and violin, playing tennis and golf, swimming and yoga. Most of all, she loves reading novels, especially detective novels. Her favourite authors are Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie. In particular, Sherlock Holmes, created by Arthur Conan Doyle, is her hero.
