Growing up in Hong Kong and Dubai along with teaching English as a Second language in Sri Lanka, Emma knew she would eventually teach internationally, so when the opportunity arose to work in a place as exciting as Shanghai in a school as impressive as NAIS Pudong, Emma knew she could not pass it up. Emma graduated with an English Literature and Drama degree from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2015 and completed her PGCE in Primary Education with a specialism in English in 2016. She began her teaching career in a small Primary school in the South East of England, teaching Year 3 and leading the History and Geography department. Due to her high level of interest towards the performing arts, Emma ran drama, choir, dance and cheer. Although Emma enjoyed teaching in the UK, the prospect of teaching at a school as highly regarded and respected as NAIS Pudong was extremely exciting and one she can’t wait to experience. Emma is keen to create a classroom full of learning and to inspire her students to develop their confidence to have the best year possible.
Emma believes growing up as an expatriate has helped her develop an open mind and a love for travelling from a young age. She loves exploring different places and experiencing the adventures the different countries have to offer. During her spare time, she can be found either reading or dancing, with a particularly strong interest in hip hop and jazz styles of dance. Emma makes sure she continues to challenge herself in both her personal and professional life and looks forward to experiencing the wonderful city that Shanghai is. Emma is excited to become part of the NAIS Pudong team and can’t wait to experience the culture, food and lifestyle of Shanghai.
