Staff Profile: David O’ Dwyer

David O'Dwyer

Year 2 Class Teacher

With a keen interest in Literature and Language, Dave obtained a BA Honours in English and German at the University of Limerick, Ireland.  Furthering his studies, he then spent a year studying Linguistics at Karl Francis University, Austria. A summer spent teaching English as a foreign Language made Dave realise his passion for teaching and in 2005, he took the decision to move to the UK, to obtain his PGCE at the University of Warwick.

After 12 years teaching across the whole of the Primary Phase, Dave aims to develop a real love of learning in his classroom.  Taking a lead on developing a creative curriculum in his school in the Midlands, Dave believes that happy and motivated children achieve best and he strives to ensure every lesson is stimulating and engaging for every child.  Dave decided to move to Shanghai to broaden both his cultural and professional horizons and he is very much looking forward to the challenges, rewards and experiences  teaching at NAIS Pudong will bring.

Originally from the Irish countryside, Dave spends much of his spare time hiking and climbing.  He enjoys keeping fit, practicing yoga and is an avid reader.  He also has a passion for travel and food.  A year spent travelling South East Asia in 2012 allowed Dave the opportunity to explore different cultures and this is something he hopes to continue whilst in Shanghai.
