    Michael Watson

    Michael comes to us from Glenalmond College in Scotland where he ran the English Department for eight years. 

    Michael is a keen scholar of Shakespeare and Chaucer as well as American authors and female writers.  His favourite poets would include Emily Dickinson, Robert Lowell and Carol Ann Duffy while his preferred novelists span from Thomas Hardy to Ian McEwan but he also has a deep love of The Canterbury Tales.  As a military history fanatic, Michael revels in the teaching of literature of the Great War and has visited the battlefields on France and Belgium on many occasions.

    Emma Hughes

    Emma is the Assistant Head of the department and takes a lead on the department's provision of International Baccalaureate Language A: Literature and Language and Literature; and Film. She is an experienced IB practitioner and asides from teaching Language and Literature she is also a qualified examiner for this subject. In addition to the teaching of English at IB, she is an Extended Essay Supervisor for English, World Studies and Film as well as being a CAS Advisor and a member of the IB Academy team as a form tutor.

    Anna Whiteson

    Anna studied English Language and Literature at Oxford University and subsequently completed her PGCE teaching qualification at Cambridge University. Since then, she has taught in London schools for 11 years, holding positions including Head of English and Senior Academic Mentor for the sixth form at a large and challenging school in south-east London. Anna very much enjoys the exciting new opportunities offered by the school, and working with such enthusiastic and positive students.  Anna also runs a critical thinking class for our Oxbridge students lower down the school where she encourages the development of critical approaches to problems in the light of the challenges faced by students wishing to attend the world's top universities.  In addition to this, Anna is also part of the IB team and coordinates the school's Extended Essay course.

    Alan Pritchard

    Alan began his teaching career in South Africa, teaching secondary Afrikaans and English Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 at private and state schools in Cape Town. After seven years, he moved to the UK, where he was a primary school teacher for six years. He obtained his Qualified Teacher Status at secondary schools in London before leaving the classroom to become a teacher trainer and writer of teaching resources.
