Staff Profile: Joanne Parrish

JPA PARRISH Joanne Primary and Secondary

Year 9 Leader and Teacher of PE

Before arriving at NAIS in 2007 Joanne taught for 10 years in a school in South West London. Originally from Ireland, she trained in London, completing a four-year teaching and PE degree. During this time she also gained a deep understanding of the theoretical side of Physical Education and taught GCSE PE, Btec Sport and A Level PE and began work on a Masters in Education. Joanne also developed her skills as a coach in a wide variety of sports.

When an opportunity arose to join the team at NAIS Pudong, she jumped at the chance to combine her love for the job and an opportunity to live abroad. Recommended by friends, she is delighted with the decision to move to Shanghai and has had the pleasure of working in a fantastic school with fantastic students ever since.

Joanne has always loved sport and throughout her school years competed in Gaelic football, basketball and athletics. Gaelic football is a passion of hers and, although she doesn’t play anymore, she likes to follow her county side from Ireland.

Outside of sport, she enjoys travel and, as a result, has taken every opportunity to explore the world. Living in a vibrant city like Shanghai has allowed her to experience a different culture right on her doorstep.

Joanne lives here with her husband, Clem, who also works at NAIS Pudong, and their two daughters who were both born in Shanghai and attend our school.
