BISS Puxi Winter Concert

Despite some inclement weather, on Friday 6 December, five rock bands, four music teachers, three choirs, two string groups and one concert band got the winter concert well and truly underway.

The rock bands really knew how to rock out with punk covers of Lady Gaga, Green Day, Katy Perry and Naughty Boy.  It was a great testament to how popular the ECAs have become with five bands playing aged from year 5 through to year 10.

The choirs sang like angels with traditional African songs, film music, gospel songs and of course some carols.  The audience also had the chance to show off their dulcet tones with O Little Town of Bethlehem and O Holy Night accompanied by the concert band and choirs.  It was the first outing for the senior concert band who managed to perform a full arrangement of Les Misérables, doubling many parts despite their small size.

It was also the first time for the junior strings to perform.  With five violins and a double bass they whipped through the Christmas carols with a jolly spring in their step.  The senior strings continued with their classical repertoire performing a minuet and trio from a Haydn string quartet and the Christmassy Sleigh Ride by Mozart.

All in all it was a happy mix of music rounded off by a cheerful (if interesting) arrangement of We Wish You A Merry Christmas!

A special thank you to Ms Zhang for her support and admin behind the scenes, to Luke Gu and Elaine Wang for helping with the sound, to the PTA for the delicious mulled wine and drinks and also a big thank you to the guards for helping to move numerous instruments back and forth!
