Our Head of Primary Writes.....

05 December 2013

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire” (William Butler Yeats).
As we near the end of term, it is important for teachers and students to reflect on all that has been achieved over the last few months.

The children have been challenged with new ideas and concepts, problems to solve, skills to learn and apply, knowledge to discover and explore. Their learning is evident in the great work they are producing in class, but importantly, also in the way that they engage in tasks, participate in discussions and are able to reflect on their own learning.

Our skilled teachers work hard to create classroom climates that inspire and support the development of high achievement, developing communities of vibrant and confident young learners. We do not want children just to know but also to really be engaged in higher order thinking; to develop a passion for learning and to be constantly asking and seeking answers to questions. This requires us to be proactive in creating meaningful opportunities throughout each day to help all children to develop a learning skills toolkit that includes; Creating, Analysing, Linking, Practising, Deep-thinking. We also want to grow a mindset where children understand that though hard work, perseverance and risk taking that it is possible for each one of us  to achieve great things, wherever our interests lie. We hope that you see the positive impact of this approach on your children when they come home enthusiastic about what they are learning, highly motivated to find out new things or when they surprise you by just how clever their thinking is already! The children have been working incredibly hard and we are very proud of what they have achieved so far!

The children will be bringing home end of term reports next week which will give you an update on their progress so far and highlight some next steps as they move forward into Term 2. These reports will also comment on children’s attitudes towards their learning which is vitally important too. If you have any questions about these reports or your child’s progress, please do speak with your child’s teacher.
