Our Mathletes

22 January 2014

Yesterday 30 students from BISS Puxi took part in a school vs school Mathletics competition against SSIS.

Our students performed outstandingly, with our Year 7 & 8 teams achieving first and second place out of six, our Year 9 & 10 teams first place out of five, whilst our Year 11 team battled head to head to come joint first in what was a very heated, close fought battle with the Singaporean school team.

This is the third competition that we’ve competed in this year against other individual schools, leading to a big competition in April. The Shanghai Mathletics competition sees five schools from around the Puxi area fight for the title of Mathletics champions.

We’ve come 2nd for the last two years running and are hoping for a first this year.

It’s great to see so many students excited about maths and competing in these competitions. Our students have been preparing through an after school ECA with Miss Smith, a lunchtime Year 7 & 8 mathletics club run by a Year 11 student, as well as some class room work.

Well done to all the students who took part and let’s keep up the good work for the April showdown!

Martin Brown, Head of Maths
