Our Principal Writes: on Recruitment, the Website and ID Card Registration

29 January 2014

An update from our Principal on recruitment, our website, parental feedback, recent school events and ID card registration.

Dear Parents,

I am delighted to be able to report that we have had a very successful recruitment trip to London. We have succeeded in filling almost all of our job vacancies for August 2014 and we have secured the services of some very fine staff. We have clearly benefitted from the strong reputation that our school has for academic achievement and for helping students to fulfil their potential. This, combined with Nord Anglia Education’s reputation as the world’s leading premium schools organisation, meant that for all subject areas we had strong fields and some tough decisions to make regarding which candidates to appoint. As you know we put a great deal of time and effort into the recruitment of staff because we know how important it is to the on-going success of our school community. I will write in more detail on this subject after the CNY break and we will post our new staff’s pen portraits on the website.

Whilst I am on the subject of the website, as you know we have a new redesigned website and we have been working on it to further develop the functionality and the content. One of the things we have been particularly focused upon is the calendar which is so important in keeping us all informed about what is happening across our busy school community. Further upgrades will be undertaken over CNY and we encourage you to visit it and explore it when you return from the holidays.

We are also always keen to hear from parents about ways in which we can improve our services to you, both academic and administrative. As a result you will be receiving a questionnaire from us on the 10 February, which will give you all the opportunity to comment on the things that you most value about what we do and the things that concern you and would like to see improved. One of the things which parents have been asking us to do over the last couple of years is to introduce credit and debit card payment for uniform, trips, music lessons, school fees etc. I am therefore very pleased to be able to announce that this will be available for all of the above payments from Monday 10 February. The only things that are presently not included are BISCAP fees and Sleto food bills. BISCAP will be available from August onwards and we are presently talking with Sleto about upgrades to their payment facilities.

During our recruitment trip it was heart-warming to receive so much positive feedback about the events taking place at school. The Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS) basketball tournament was a great all round success. It was very well run and for the second year running both the boys and the girls won this prestigious event to add to their success in becoming Western Division SISAC (Shanghai International Schools Activities Conference) Basketball champions.  The Winter Wonderland event, postponed from before Christmas, was also much enjoyed and a great success. It was a credit to the hard work of our CAS Co-ordinator Ling Coong, the Year 12 students and the PTA, and a very good example of the benefits of team play and community spirit.

Finally, can I please remind you that we need your help in completing and returning the ID card registration form along with passport quality photos for parents, guardians as well as ayis and drivers if they are involved in the transporting of children to and from school across the age groups. This is designed to further enhance our security without creating any unnecessary inconvenience and therefore it is in everyone’s interest to complete this process as soon as possible. Please find below links to theform you will need to complete.

Thank you to everyone for their hard work in the period since Christmas. I hope you all have a good break and from everyone here at BISS Puxi Xīn Nián kuài lè!
