Then and now: students sorting clothes for River of Hearts in 2008 and 2014!
Every year I find it enriching to have a sort through old and unwanted clothes and decide what will stay and what will go.
Back in 2008 we started working with River of Hearts, a charity that distributes clothes to people in areas of China that have been affected by natural disasters. We gave them a place to sort the clothes that had been donated and manpower: our students worked through the whole of Saturday as well as the Friday after school.
Two years ago we began our clothes donation here at school with extreme success. Last year we filled over 100 boxes to be sent away to affected areas in central and northern China and this year we will be donating all of our unwanted garments again, to those who are in more need of them than we are.
This year’s clothes donation is running next week from Monday 27 to Friday 31 October. All you need to do is bring the clothes into the primary school where there will be four large grey collection bins located at the front of school. Please put clothes in any of the bins and we will do the rest.
This is a really meaningful way to clear out space and help others, so please join us in having a good clear out!
