Opportunities For Our Young Leaders in Primary

24 October 2014

At BISS Puxi we actively encourage meaningful student engagement and create opportunities for student voice, and so this week we made the final selections for our Primary Student Council Representatives.

  • The Primary Student Council at the British International School Shanghai, Puxi
  • The Primary Student Council at the British International School Shanghai, Puxi
  • The Primary Student Council at the British International School Shanghai, Puxi

Our Students Council Representatives from Years 4, 5 and 6.

This process has exposed the children in Years 4-6 to the idea of applying for a job or important position; identifying their personal qualities and aptitudes and considering them against a job and role description; deciding if they really wanted to make the commitment required; making an application and promoting themselves.

There was tough competition and the teachers selected the students who they felt would consistently be strong in this important role of representing their peers.

These students will now take on the role of serving their peers by representing their issues, aware that they might not always have the power to change policies, but have an important role in voicing student opinion and influencing thinking and actions within the school community.

As young leaders in the school they will be involved in meeting regularly to plan school events, awareness campaigns and assemblies and discuss school matters with students, teachers and school leaders. We are so impressed by the passion and confidence of our students to put themselves forward for these roles and know they will take their responsibilities seriously. We are sure we will be hearing a lot from these budding young leaders in the coming weeks and months. Well done to you all!
