Gymnastics Competition for the BISCAP Lions

24 November 2014

On Sunday 16 November the BISCAP Lions Gymnastics team, along with their Multisport coaches, were proud to be entered into one of the first intra-school Gymnastics competitions in Shanghai, hosted at the German International School and organised by both the German Gymnastics coaching staff and Multisport.

The competition involved seven teams representing students from BISS Puxi, Dulwich College, The German International School and YCIS.

The team event consisted of four to six gymnasts per team, competing over three sets of apparatus; The Beam, The Vault and The floor. Four gymnasts were eligible to compete per apparatus with the top three scores being taken to produce an overall team score.

A fabulous competition was had by all, with the BISCAP Lions consisting of Seoneid Jervis, Lia Skog, Julietta Rubio Jones, Asia Zanoni and Zoe Metais. One of the gymnasts, Seonaid Jervis in Year 5, tells us about the event and how the Lions got on:

“On Sunday we took part in our first competition. We had been practising for three weeks and we all felt excited and nervous. When we got there we found out that seven teams were taking part. Each of us in our team competed on three different types of equipment: Floor, Vault and Beam and had learned a routine for each.

After a short warm up and parade we started the competition doing vault first, then beam and finally floor. We all did our very best.

After a short break for some yummy cakes and drinks the prize giving took place and we were surprised and delighted to get third place! We all got bronze medals, a certificate and a rose. Then they gave out individual prizes and I was utterly shocked but very happy when they announced my name for the second place on Floor and I got a silver medal. It was a great day!”

With BISCAP being a community sports programme, it was also nice to see one of our BISCAP Gymnasts competing for their school and taking a clean sweep of all individual events, as well as being part of the winning team.  Well done Karla Schlemmer.

Multisport hope to make this competition a regular event with the aim to get more and more schools and gymnasts involved in this fantastic sport.
