Our Early Years Cubs Get Cool with Ice

01 December 2014

The Pre-Nursery Cubs have been looking at the topic of Winter. Head of Early Years Cubs, Ruth Hanson, tells us what and how they have been learning through using ice in play.

The children have been exploring ice; coloured ice, sparkly ice, ice balloons, objects frozen in ice and scented ice.

We have been talking about the effects of ice on our hands, how it melts and what we can do to make that happen faster.  We have also been setting up small world play scenarios with polar animals for the children to play and explore with.

The photographs above show the children exploring the coloured ice. They were fascinated by the changing ice and the coloured water. They enjoyed sharing this experience with one another and feeling the cold, cold ice on their hands brrrr...
