Bringing Learning to Life in Reception

The reception children are currently looking at the theme of Castles and Knights and last Friday they all went into training in Knight School!

Our Cubs in Reception being challenged by Sir Lancelot to become Knights.

The Reception cubs were challenged to become knights after a visit from Sir Lancelet last week. They were asked the BIG question: ‘What do they have to do to become knights?’

What fun they had thinking, learning and preparing for Knight School!  All week they were preparing themselves: making swords with careful measurements, building a castle and solving problems, making shields with creative and caring mottos and even designing and making their own armour.

Friday was Knight School day and the children dressed in the tunics they had painted and got the helmets and swords they had made ready for action!

They underwent a number of challenges throughout the day including medieval dance, target practice, fencing and outdoor skills such as spear throwing, galloping, drawing chalk dragons and collecting treasures! All this they did in the hope that at the end of the day, they would have answered the BIG question and would be knighted.

They all passed Knight School with flying colours and were knighted... It was a fantastic day!
