Maths Team Rank 3rd In China

17 April 2014

The Purple Comet! Math Meet is a global, annual, team mathematics competition designed for secondary school students. It is a desperately hard competition containing some remarkably difficult problems. This year 2,970 teams from 41 countries competed.

  • BISS Puxi come 3rd in China in Maths Competition

The team with their certificates, along with their coach Dr Pitcher and Year 11 assistant coach Hyun Jin Kim.

The BISS Puxi team of six students from Years 7 and 8 have been coached for the competition by Dr Pitcher and Year 11 assistant coach Hyun Jin Kim and on Tuesday 8 April competed in the 60 minute challenge.

The team, which consisted of Daniel Hawkins, Vladimir Sukhoi, Justin Shin, Mitchell Lee, Harvey Yuen and Jeong Gyeon Kim, worked well as a unit, showing flair, determination and team work.

Their efforts resulted in them being ranked #3 in China and #56 in the world, which was enough to put them in the 83rd percentile in their competition group. A phenomenal achievement considering the short preparation time the students had for the competition.
