The 100 students in the year group were tasked with the responsibility of finding and organising their own placement in a field in which they had the most interest. This morning they have left home in their business attire, some in uniform, finding their way to the office, factory or such like to have their first real taste of the working world. They will spend this week working with a wide range of employers, from the hotel and restaurant sector to advertising and design, from industry and engineering to medicine and animal care.
Each student has thought carefully about their choice of placement and for the first time they will be able to experience what it is like to work in the sector they have chosen. The majority of our students are working in Shanghai, although a handful have travelled overseas for their placement; some to Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia, with one student going back to his home country of Sweden to pursue his interest in medicine.
Some of the companies that they are going to work at for the week include: The Langham Hotel, Johnson Controls, Lear Corporation Asia Pacific, Deloitte, Swissnex, Ivoclar Vivadent, Institut Paul Bocuse, Lloyds Register Classification Society, Siemens Ltd, Chery Jaguar Land Rover and Nestle.
During their placements the students are expected to keep a diary and record their experiences, whilst reflecting on what they have learned not only about the job they are doing, but also about their own development. We wish them luck in their placements and look forward to hearing about their experiences on their return to school next week.
