Learning Doesn’t Stop Over the Summer

19 June 2014

Summer is finally here, and school will be out soon. Roohi Iqbal, Higher Education Advisor, tells us what some of our students have planned for the summer holidays.

While these months are important downtime for our hardworking students, summer holidays also provide an excellent opportunity to hone skills and pick up new interests, something that may be more difficult during the school year with its competing demands.

This year, BISS Puxi students are off on some amazing experiences around the globe.

These include an environmental study trip to Indonesia with Operation Wallacea, dance camp at Ballet Academy East in New York City, studying literature at St. John’s College in New Mexico and Maryland, conducting research projects at Brown University and New York University (NYU) and interdisciplinary camps at Stanford University, University of Washington and University of California at Berkley.

We also have students studying intensive Chinese at Middlebury College in Vermont, courses in the Arts at Interlocken Camp in Michigan and SCAD in Hong Kong, Maths courses with MathPath and John Hopkins CTY and learning programming with iDTech across various US campuses.  In addition, some students are taking IB preparation courses at the University of Oxford and University of Edinburgh in the UK.

We hope these summer experiences will enrich, strengthen and inform individual students’ interests and passions and I look forward to hearing all about them in September.
