Urban Aphrodite at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
We’re very excited to be hosting the show for two nights next week, Thursday 11 and Friday 12 September.
So what is the show about? Director, Ann James, explains that Starchild: The Little Prince Reborn “leaves audiences in a dreamlike state wrapped up in an entirely different world, transformed by the emotional biorhythm of the show. It is an original, universal physical theatre piece based on the incredible travels of The Little Prince written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. By using dance, theatre and movement methods based on the Suzuki Method, this family-friendly show was developed over the course of nine months. With strong imagery as a base, and an original score composed specifically for the production, Starchild: The Little Prince Reborn will capture your heart and remind you why being tamed is not so bad at all.”
Head of Performing Arts, Maria Kane, tells us why it’s such a great opportunity for our students:
'Having a theatre company perform in our school that has arrived straight from the Edinburgh Festival is an amazing opportunity for the pupils. They will be able to see just how engaging a piece of theatre can be which doesn't have to rely on heavy use of set, sound or lighting, as in the Edinburgh Festival you must be able to move into and out of a venue very quickly. It will allow them to see our own performance space in a new and exciting way, whilst at the same time showing them the variety of theatre available to watch in Shanghai.'
This 50 minute performance will be held in the secondary Auditorium at 7pm and tickets are available on the door for discounted price of 100RMB. The director and cast will also be holding an informative TalkBack session after the show on both nights, so you can ask them any questions you have about the play or what it was like performing at the Edinburgh Festival.
We hope to see you there!
