Assistant Head (Data Systems and Student Tracking)

  • Period: Full Time
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Closing date for applications: 15 January 2015

Are you talented, motivated, highly computer literate and looking for a senior leadership opportunity in a successful and expanding school? The British International School Shanghai, Puxi Campus is looking for a senior leader to take on the crucial role of managing its extensive academic data systems and leading on student tracking and reporting.

We are responsible for educating over 1400 students aged between 3 and 18, and we help them to achieve outstanding educational outcomes. Crucial to this is our portfolio of data handling processes and tools, some of which are commercial products and some of which are developed and maintained by us. You would be responsible, with the support of the IT manager and team, for ensuring that systems work smoothly, but you would also be keen to explore new ways of using technology to deliver a better service to students, parents and staff. Innovation in these areas has been a hallmark of ours and a cornerstone in our success and we are keen to appoint the right person to make sure this continues. Timetabling, examination processes and a number of other key drivers for the school would also be part of your leadership remit.

This Senior Leadership post provides significant autonomy and responsibility, as well as the opportunity to work as part of a strong leadership team. Your responsibilities would stretch across both primary and secondary schools, and you would work closely with the Heads of Primary and Secondary, whilst reporting directly to the Principal. Along with other senior staff you would be responsible for the promotion and marketing of the school, and for its reputation in the local and global community.

We welcome applications from exceptional professionals with the right blend of experience, creativity, organisation, passion and flair. An exceptional degree of computer literacy is a pre-requisite for the post, since it requires you to be comfortable working with different management information systems, databases and reporting tools and an expert working with a spreadsheet. We’re certainly looking for someone who likes spending time with a computer, but we also want to find someone who likes to get out and about in the school and talk with people as well.

As a qualified teacher and proven leader, you will be familiar with the needs of schools and confident working with children and adults. You will be an excellent communicator, who gets on well with colleagues, students, and parents. You will be able to help others to use technology effectively and be happy to lead change. Amongst other things, you’ll be well organised, have a good sense of humour and have the kind of infectious enthusiasm that carries people along with you.

As an international school in a major city we have students and teachers with a wide range of backgrounds from around the world. You’ll be responsible for leading, managing and developing a programme that creates a culture of inspiration, enjoyment and success for every student. You will teach about 40% of a full timetable to secondary age students and set an example to others with your own practice in the classroom. You will liaise closely and proactively with parents, developing engagement strategies and helping them to feel reassured and positive about the experiences and development of their sons and daughters as they progress through the primary and into the secondary school and IB Academy.

In addition to being highly successful in its own right, the British International School Shanghai Puxi is a member of the Nord Anglia Education family of premium international schools. This means you’ll be joining an international team in which thoughts and ideas are shared around the globe as we strive to make our schools the very best in the world and you’ll have the security and opportunities that come from being part of a high quality global organisation dedicated to education.

In return for your passion to deliver and develop quality educational provision you will enjoy a competitive salary (including a leadership allowance), accommodation provided by us, an annual flight allowance, places in the school for your children, a living allowance and international health insurance. You’ll have the opportunity to live in and work in one of the world’s largest and most vibrant cities. Here at the British International School Shanghai’s Puxi Campus we are a close knit team and are proud of our school and community. If you’d like to be a part of what we’re building, please get in touch: we’d love to hear from you.
