In the lessons, students identified concepts of ‘migration’ and applied examples from the news, their own lives and events in history.
Moving on from this knowledge, the students identified some reasons why many people in rural provinces of China choose to move their lives to urban areas and some of the impacts this brings. In the second part of lessons, the students learnt about the difficulties many migrant workers face when they arrive in the city and more about the hukou system which restricts many people from the same rights as urban born citizens.
Our students were given the opportunity to review the current hukou system and created a modified hukou system which could hypothetically be used in the future.
All of our KS3 students will now appreciate more about the China wide issue of migration and we hope that it will help to reach our goal of Giving Tree bags this year.
