We are now midway through the middle school football season and have had some very positive results as both our boys and girls football development programmes go from strength to strength. The BISS Lions are currently in contention for winning three out of four of the British schools Leagues we have entered at U14 and U13 level and we will have some excellent results to tell you about next week with regards to our Under 15 FOBISIA Team who returned to Shanghai yesterday.
SISAC Netball
Our senior netball team played in the SISAC Netball tournament during the weekend and came up against tough competition. The students won two games, drew one and lost two in the preliminary rounds and played Dulwich College Shanghai (team 2) in the playoffs for 3rd and 4th. In a thrilling match, the students played their best game for the season to beat Dulwich and claim 3rd place overall. Congratulations to the team who have shown huge improvement over the netball season.

BISS Puxi – FC Japan 4-3
A very fit and organised Japan side took the lead early on and remained so until half time. Early in the second half, BISS Puxi pulled it level with great work down the right resulting in a smart finish. Within seconds it was 2-1 to BISS Puxi as our captain struck a pinpoint free kick from the angle of the area. From here on in, it was very open and end to end with neither team holding back. Japan equalised when an initial header wasn't cleared and the pacey Japan striker used his speed and strength to finish low past the advancing keeper. Another free kick from the BISS Puxi captain put them back in front, this time from a central but very distant position. But Japan kept battling and were rewarded when the number 10 caught the BISS Puxi keeper in possession as he delayed his clearance and slotted the ball calmly. But BISS Puxi were to have the final say as our experienced striker got on the end of his own through ball and once again made no mistake placing the ball past the advancing keeper. A superb match which was played in great spirits and the referees were excellent, well done to both sides.
Basketball season openers
The Division 1 under 19 boys basketball team have opened their season with two solid performances. The first was a win by nine points over SSIS and the second game which was the Lions first home game against SAS Puxi 2 was a resounding victory by 20 points. Coach Lister was happy with the wins but recognised that the boys still have a lot of work to do before they can compete properly with the other larger basketball programme teams in the city in a couple of weeks’ time.
Next week, we will have news on our teams who competed at the U15 FOBISIA Games Hong Kong.
