BISS Lions Swimming Team
Since the start of the year, the BISS Puxi Lions swim team has again impressed and left the pool with many new individual and team records.
One of the great things of being in the Swim team is seeing all the commitment and perseverance of the swimmers, coaches and the parents, who are part of a truly fantastic community.
One of the main attributes of the swimmers is that they constantly train hard and effectively, as well as listening to the coaches’ advice in order to make sure they can improve as much as possible. I’ve observed this when coaching the eager primary swimmers, who are always prepared to take advice from the older swimmers and look up to us as role models.
I think that a tremendous amount of team spirit and persistence is present throughout all ages groups within the team, and the teamwork and collaboration between all of us is one of the things that makes me think that I couldn’t wish for any other team to be in.
This term, there have been some great successes and achievements for all of the swimmers, with many of us achieving personal bests, winning races and receiving medals. Amongst some of the swim meets we went to this year were the SAS Pudong and SCIS Puxi competitions, both at an extremely competitive and high quality level. We competed against almost all of the international schools in Shanghai and all accomplished amazing things, whether it was in the relays or individual races.
I think that over the course of only this term, the team has progressed immensely in terms of commitment, effort and spirit, and I am sure that we will continue to do so and reach the ideal level for racing in the upcoming FOBISIA meet in Phuket.
A special thanks to Monique Ramaker for all her hard work in training and supporting us at all the competitions this term.

Under 19 Netball
The U19 Netball season this year has again been a great experience in which the team’s hard work paid off through individual and team successes. This was due to the 2 hour training sessions after school and 1 hour in the morning every week, which enabled us to develop our skills and heighten our level of performance as a whole. Throughout the season, our netball team became increasingly better, both winning and losing matches and using them as an opportunity to identify weaknesses and encourage team work.
Towards the end of the season, we were able to work very well together, supporting each other and finding those mistakes that we needed to improve. The final ACAMIS tournament was quite intense, using all that we had worked on, trying to correct all the small mistakes we might have done in a previous match we did our best to win. Overall we achieved third place with everyone taking home a medal to remember the great season we had together.

What sport at BISS Puxi means to me!
In the past few years at BISS Puxi, I have had the chance to go to lots of different sport related trips but none of them can compare to our Under 15 FOBISIA trip to Hong Kong.
The standard we reached this year was the best I have seen yet. Every single member, both girls and boys gave their absolute everything to achieve the best they could. This determination is what won our games as even when we thought we had already lost it, we still managed to score 2 goals in under a minute or swish a three pointer with seconds to go.
However what the team and I loved the most was the atmosphere created by the sportsmanship of others and the time the trip gave use to bond with people we never would have, never gotten the chance to meet. Now that it’s over, I have had people come up to me and say that they miss the opportunities training for FOBISIA and the community that it created.
